The Wolves

The Wolves Pilot Episode — Anatomy of Spiritual Abuse

Episode Summary

This podcast is about spiritual abuse— a human evil that is an abuse of power. Though often physical in nature, spiritual abuse is always rooted in the psychological violence of a perpetrator against his victim. In this first episode, Paul Martin shares the story of Alan Scott, a pastor with multiple allegations of spiritual abuse, including body shaming and allegations of swindling The Vineyard church of Anaheim out of their home, valued at over $100 million. Paul also covers four foundational aspects of spiritual abuse: words, oppressors, justice, and trauma.

Paul Martin is a former pastor who currently works as a human rights advocate. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in philosophy from UCLA and Talbot School of Theology at Biola University, respectively.

The Wolves is for anyone interested in religion, Jesus, or the psychology around power abuse. It is also for survivors of trauma, including spiritual abuse. Covering current cases of abuse in the church today, The Wolves will highlight the sinister paradox of those who display sincerity, conviction, and knowledge and who can even claim to hear the very voice of God himself, YET at the very same time abuse they claim to love.
